The Tantalus Campaign - the Palidas System

The Palidas system is one of untold millions throughout the Milky Way. Before the destruction of Cadia, there was little value in the backwater system, beyond the mining agri-world Tantalus. Even then, Tantalus was important only for the minute amount of resources it provided to the Imperium at large.

With the advent of the Cicatrix Maledictum, there are very few paths between the Imperium Sanctus and the Imperium Nihilus - the most well-known is the Nachmund Gauntlet, safeguarded by Vigilus - but others also exist. One such unnamed corridor is most closely bordered by the Palidas system, and as such it has become a region of great conflict.

The system contains several planets, planetoids, and moons; the main point of contention is the third planet, Tantalus.

The Palidas System

  • Palidas
    • Palidas is a wholly unremarkable star, roughly the same size and luminosity as Sol.
  • Pelops
    • Pelops is a dwarf planet, far too close to Palidas to be even remotely conducive to life.
    • Moons:
      • none.
  • Niobe
    • Niobe is a tidally locked planet, roughly the size of Terra. The side of the planet facing Palidas is almost molten, whilst the far side is utterly frigid. There is a small, hospitable band in the twilight zone, marked by great rents in the surface as the planet constantly shifts in tectonic instabilities.
    • Moons:
      • none.
  • Tantalus
    • Tantalus is a geologically diverse world, rich in resources and until recently mostly unmarked by industrialisation. It is a planet of flowing savannahs, soaring mountains, deep oceans, heavy forests and arid deserts.
    • Recent industrial activity has resulted in desolate fields of radioactive and volcanic fallout, marring the once-pristine surface of this otherwise insignificant world.
    • Mining operations  uncovered a mammoth structure made of the alien material known as Blackstone, and the resulting race for control of this resource has led to representatives of many of the galaxy's most prominent players claiming footholds.
    • Moons:
      • Caladan
      • Giedi
      • Salusa
  • Atreus
    • Atreus is a world predominantly covered in water; vast oceans and frozen ice sheets dominate its surface. There are several small, self-sustaining geological survey stations floating upon its seas, powered by hydroelectricity and fed with enormous algae farms.
    • Moons:
      • Ix
  • Broteas
    • Broteas is a massive gas giant, orbited by a multitude of lifeless moons.
    • Moons:
      • Somnus
      • Malevus
      • Medens
      • Felix
      • Timens
      • Vapidus
      • Stultus
      • Malum
